Following an open search process, I am delighted to inform you that Jan Townley has accepted my invitation to become the next District Lead Volunteer for Wyre District Scouts.
I’m sure that Jan will be well-known to many of you. She is currently a member of the District Leadership Team, leading the Programme Team, and a District Trustee. Jan is also known in the wider County in her role as County Development Officer. She brings a wealth of experience to the role, and is well-placed to lead Wyre District going forward.
Jan will succeed Jon Minshull as District Lead Volunteer at the District St Georges Day celebration on the 27th April, and will be working with Jon over the coming weeks to manage a smooth handover.
I would also like to take this opportunity to place on record my thanks to Jon, on behalf of the County and Wyre District. Jon has led Wyre District with care and dedication over the past five years. He has led the District through Covid-19 and overseen growth in membership to above pre-pandemic level. He has also championed the launch of Squirrels, opening 8 dreys, and steered the District through the volunteer experience transformation. I am sure Jon will go on to continue supporting Scouting in other roles and look forward to discussing with him what they may be.
Jon leaves Wyre in good shape with lots of opportunities on the horizon: to strengthen our Scout Groups and reach more young people through great programme opportunities. I know that the District will continue to thrive under Jan’s leadership and with the support of each one of you.
Best Wishes,

Andrew Hobson
