Scouts are starting a new provision for four and five year olds called Squirrels, to help young people gain skills for life at a time when it matters most and where it’s most needed. This is the first time in 35 years that there is a new provision for young people! We’re all excited!
Why now?
We want to reach young people who could benefit most from Scouts. Research suggests that the earlier a young person accesses non-formal education, the more positive the impact on their prospects.
There are already various models of Scouts across the world. All providing some really positive feedback. As such there have been a number of successful pilot schemes.
Benefits of joining Squirrels
Squirrels is a completely new provision for 4–5 year olds. There are plenty of reasons to get stuck in, as Squirrels gives young people the chance to:
- Make friends
- Have fun outdoors
- Learn new things
- Earn badges through fun activities
When will they open in West Lancs?
As a County we are working closely with HQ and Districts to ensure we have all that is in place to open new Squirrel Dreys. We are looking to hopefully begin this from November time.
If you are interested in volunteering as part of this or any other of our sections then please visit our Want to Join page.
