A Yachting trip along and around the South Coast of England in October 2026
An exciting and adventurous trip for West Lancs Scouts Explorers and Network Members. This will build on previous Yachting trips and will be attractive to Explorers and Network Members who have been on one of these trips or who have already got experience on a yacht, ideally Competent Crew.
Aims of the Trip:
- To develop #SkillsForLife
- Broaden Yachting experience in tidal and more challenging conditions
- Enhance navigation skills
- Work towards Day Skipper or Coastal Skipper Qualifications
- Develop and focus on teamwork
With a mix of weather, challenges, and large and smaller boats, the trip is well suited to those
wanting to enhance their sailing and navigational skills, and those first-time sailors. The trip will also give
everyone the chance to take on real responsibilities, get more miles under their belt, and grow their
confidence and independence at sea.
The success of the trip will be through feedback from participants and skippers, informal
reflection throughout the week, and progress through the RYA qualification syllabi. For those working
toward permits, qualifications, or DofE awards, this trip will give them practical time on the water that
will no doubt excel them towards their goals; and for everyone involved, success will be seen in their
growth, confidence, and motivation to keep sailing.

The Team:
Trip Leader – Alastair Johnson
Deputies: Mark Westwood & David Sheard
The team is made up of a Skipper and a Leader for each yacht with 6 to 8 participants per yacht.
The Costs:
Clearly there are costs associated with travel to and from the south coast. This is included in the costs as coach/mini bus hire.
Per person the trip is £750
