The birthday celebrations at Brindle St Joseph’s (BSJ) continued this July with a family camp at the group’s very own camping field.
More than 60 people from BSJ families attended from Friday to Sunday to party together with games, activities, plenty of time to chill out or get active, a camp fire and a silent disco.
Here, Scout Erin Lynn shares her experiences.
“Family camp was fun. I had a good time shelter building, making food, playing piggy in the middle and Twister. We cooked burgers and made kebabs and me and my friends took our parents on a really long walk to have ice cream and watch cricket at the club. I liked the cake decorating. I did a scribble of icing and lots of sprinkles. I got asked how this relates to Scouting, And I just said that they are both crazy! I enjoyed the slip and slide. After me and my friends got all wet, I thought we should have a water fight. I made s’mores at the campfire and because I had my knife passport I was able to prepare wood for the fire and light it with cotton wool and my flint and steel. I stayed up until it was properly dark to see the stars and the plane lights in the sky. All together, I had a great time.”
Cub Rosie Kelly added:
“I loved the silent disco. It was amazing to dance inside and outside on the field, and the best bit was that everyone’s favourite songs were played. I had an amazing time. The 50th birthday year has already seen the group secure funding for a minibus, and now the festivities will continue into the autumn with some familiar faces from BSJ’s own story being invited back to the hall to take part in the celebrations.
