8th Blackpool Squirrel have a flying visit!

On 13/03/2026

Recently, the 8th Blackpool Squirrels, had a flying visit from the Northwest Air Ambulance. They came along and had a chat with the Squirrels about completing their Helicopter Heroes Award as well as providing them with a helping hand in the form of some booklets. The award involved completing three things in order to gain it, these were:

  • First Aid – They used the resources available on the NWAA Website, plus half of the mini medics course. This enabled the Squirrels to achieve their Emergency Aid 1 badge as well.
  • Awareness – The Squirrels made posters to put up in their homes and schools, to raise awareness of the work the NWAA do.
  • Fundraise – Raising money to support the NWAA. For this the Squirrels have collectively made up a story about a Squirrel and and Air Ambulance. Their aim was to digitise it, with the Squirrels designing front covers then sell it to parents. However, it was to good! so they had it turned into a proper book as well as having it published! These are now being sold for £10 with all proceeds going to the Northwest Air Ambulance. This has in turn helped the Squirrels to achieve their Story Time badge and has also gone towards their All Around Us Challenge award.

If you would like some more information about the books and are interested in purchasing one to support the NWAA, then please contact Amanda Webster (8th Blackpool Squirrel Team Lead) via email on amanda.webster@blackpoolscouts.org.uk
