Training, Skills & Development for Volunteers
At West Lancs Scouts, we believe in supporting every volunteer’s personal development journey, from the moment you join us and throughout your time with the Scouts. Whether you’re new to Scouting or have been with us for years, there are a range of learning opportunities available to help you grow in your role, deepen your knowledge, and gain valuable accreditations.
By completing your learning, you’ll be equipped with the skills and confidence to make a real difference in your community while continuing to develop yourself as a leader, volunteer, or mentor. The learning pathway is designed to support your role within Scouting and includes everything from core training to optional modules, plus a range of rewarding certificates and badges.

First Response
First Response is Scouts' first aid learning requirement. It helps volunteers gain the skills and confidence to respond in an emergency and support everyone safely.
First Response is mandatory for volunteers in Section Teams, Group Lead Volunteers and 14 - 24 Team Leaders and must be completed within 12 months of starting your role.
Once completed, First Response is valid for 3 years and must be renewed before it expires if you remain in a role that requires it.
There are three ways to complete First Response:
1. Attend a face-to-face course
Complete the full six hour First Response course delivered by West Lancs Scouts

2. Complete the blended route
This option combines:
- First Response eLearning
- An online trainer-led session
- A practical validation assessment

Once the eLearning has been completed. book your online and practical assessment by looking at the list on the right
3. Use an external first aid qualification
If you've completed a first aid qualification outside Scouts, you maybe able to use it towards your First Response Validation.
Some external qualifications do nto fully cover the Scouts First Response syllabus, meaning you may need to complete additional eLearning modules or a practical assessment
