Announcing Our Ambitions in Preparing Better Futures in Lancashire

West Lancashire Scouts announced its ambitions in preparing better futures for young people across Lancashire to enable them to provide more vital #SkillsForLife by building stronger partnerships during a recent event, ‘Preparing Better Futures’ hosted by our President Gail Stanley MBE DL JP, with the guest of honour Speaker of the House Sir Lindsay Hoyle MP, giving the keynote address in which he praised the work of scouts across Lancashire during the event at Samlesbury Hall, one of the most beautiful historic homes of Lancashire.

This event brought together community leaders from businesses, charities, and educational groups across Lancashire to build partnerships to provide better futures for young people in Lancashire.

Teamwork is at the heart of Scouting, we build it in young people, and it takes teams of adults to make it happen. Your support can really make a difference to the work we do in Scouting. Whether it’s meeting spaces, resources, funding, or supporting our volunteers – you’ll be helping us provide skills for life to the next generation.

Speaker of the House, Sir Lindsay Hoyle MP said: “People ask me why I am so supportive of the scouts and I always say it because I know how much they do for our communities”

“Scouts are the backbone of so many communities across the country”

Scouts changes lives. We want to give every young person in West Lancashire the opportunity to join our adventure. Research from Ofsted tells us that children are lacking basic skills and learning. It’s about promoting key skills like working together, communication, and language, as well as creativity and community awareness.

Every week we give over 10,000, 4–25-year-olds the skills they need for school, college, university, the job interview, the important speech, the tricky challenge, and the big dreams: the skills they need for life, supported by over 3,000 flexible volunteers.

Young Person, Emma Aggrey (18) said: “It was a great chance to share all my fantastic experiences in scouting and why we are such a great organisation to support”

“Scouts opened my eyes to a world of opportunities”

Emma, who now volunteers with her local group was one of the original proposers of ‘Thank You Day’. Touched by the sacrifices that many have made during the pandemic and helped organise the UK wide ‘Thank You Day’ as a way of giving back and showing appreciation to unsung Covid heroes. Throughout lockdown Emma also delivered scores of sessions to children aged 6-8 years online via Zoom as a Beaver Scout Leader. She ran scavenger hunts and online camps.

Chair of Trustees – West Lancashire Scouts Richard Charnock, said: “We have over 540 groups meeting every week to prepare young people with skills for life, supported by over 3000 adult volunteers”
