Welcoming our new Youth Lead (Commissioner), Emma Aggrey

Emma will be taking over from Jenson Thomas as West Lancashire Scouts Youth Commissioner/Lead from our Annual General Meeting in September.

We’d like to give a big, warm welcome to our new Youth Commissioner/Lead, Emma Aggrey.

She’ll be supporting our District Youth Leads (Commissioners) all over the county and making sure we’re meeting our strategic objectives. Most importantly, she’ll be encouraging us to be even more youth shaped, by listening to and representing the voices of young people in Scouts.

Our new West Lancs Scouts Youth Commissioner/Lead, Emma Aggrey

Emma’s Scouts journey

Emma been in Scouts since she from 6 years old. She’s been involved all the way from Beavers at 1st Ormskirk through to Explorers, and she’s now a Beaver Leader at 1st Ormskirk. Emma has always helped others as child, but attributes her growth in confidence to Scouts, as well as her ability to lead and communicate with others.

With her Scout group, Emma’s done lots of brilliant work in her community. She’s taken part in international adventures, enabled hundreds of young people to be a part of Scouts, and much more. Emma’s proud that Scouts has given her the chance to impact her local community and the people around her.

As well as helping her community, she’s grateful for all the opportunities Scouts has given her. In particular, she’s loved all the interesting outdoor activities she’s done, and the skills she’s learned from them.

Emma, who now volunteers with her local group was one of the original proposers of ‘Thank You Day’. Touched by the sacrifices that many have made during the pandemic and helped organise the UK wide ‘Thank You Day’ as a way of giving back and showing appreciation to unsung Covid heroes. Throughout lockdown Emma also delivered scores of sessions to children aged 6-8 years online via Zoom as a Beaver Scout Leader. She ran scavenger hunts and online camps.

One of Emma’s favourite Scouts moments was at a World Scout Jamboree in 2019. Emma met Scouts from all over the world, and was able to learn new skills, experience new cultures, and make international bonds with fellow scouts who may not share the same mother tongue but hold the same values as one another. Something she looks back fondly on all the memories she’s made with lots of wonderful people.

At Scouts, we’re the dream builders, the future makers, and the inspirers, helping create closer communities and build a stronger society.

Becoming West Lancs Scouts Youth Commissioner

Emma felt ready to take her Scouts experience a step further by becoming the next County Youth Commissioner. She’s passionate about making sure Scouts stays youth shaped, and she’s hoping to encourage even more young people to take an active role in planning programmes.

She’d like to promote all the great work Youth Commissioners are doing across the country, and make sure young people’s voices are being heard and more young people to complete their YouShape Award.

It’s important for Emma that she keeps promoting Scouts as a welcoming and inclusive environment for everybody, regardless of their backgrounds. Since she’ll be speaking to people across the County, Emma’s new role has given her even more room to grow. She’s ready to build her confidence to a new level, become a better leader, and communicate even more strongly with others.

“You have the chance to take control of your time in Scouts. If there’s anything you want to do, tell your leaders and take the lead of your own experience. Make the most of the time and opportunities you get in Scouts, because when I look back, I had some of the best adventures and you can too.

Emma Aggrey – Youth Lead (Youth Commissioner) West Lancashire Scouts

I’m so Delighted for Emma to join us. Her passion for youth shaped scouting truly shines through, and I know she’ll brilliantly represent the voices of young people across the country. Emma’s achieved so much in Scouts, as both a member and volunteer, and I’m confident she’ll bring amazing things to her role. I’d Like to thank Jenson for all his hard work and wish him the best of luck.
